Film: Collaboration on health and safety in shops

It is the employer's responsibility to ensure a safe and healthy working environment in the store. But this must be done in collaboration between the management and the employees, who know what goes on in the store on a daily basis.

This short film shows how you can get a good cooperation on safety and health in the store.

The formal rules

The rules on the work of the health and safety organisation and on cooperation on the working environment are laid down by the Danish Working Environment Authority (WEA) in Executive Order 1181 on cooperation on safety and health(in Danish only)

  • Small shops with up to 9 employees: The order states that small shops with 1-9 employees do not need to set up a formal occupational health and safety organisation. Here, the employer must ensure that cooperation on safety and health can take place. Cooperation takes place through ongoing direct contact and dialogue between the employer, any supervisors and the other employees.
  • Shops with 10 or more employees: In companies with 10 or more employees, cooperation on the working environment must take place in a health and safety organisation. The requirements for the organisation again depend on the size of the company, but the general principle is that the health and safety organisation consists of one or more representatives of the employer and one or more elected representatives of the employees.
