Additional knowledge about lifting, pulling and pushing in the shop

BFA Handel has made three summaries of the rules for organization of work, layout of the workplace and work techniques in the retail sector. Here, as an employer or manager, you can get an overview of the rules that the person in charge must comply with.

Organisation of work

It is the employer who is responsible for the work being planned and organised, so that the staff can carry it out in a fully responsible manner in terms of safety and health.

The employer can do this by, for example, planning and managing the work, ensuring the layout of the workplace, ensuring that the necessary technical aids are available and ensuring that the employees are trained and instructed in how to carry out the work.

The employees have a duty to follow the instructions given and carry out the work properly.

Design of the workplace

The layout and fixtures in the store are important for whether the employees can work safely with lifting, pulling and pushing, and whether they can avoid unnecessary strain.

The design is good when the employees can access it with technical aids and there is room to work with good work techniques.

Manual handling techniques

There are a large number of guidelines for how employees can work safely and healthily.

It is the employer's responsibility that employees are instructed in good work techniques and thus reduce the strain on muscles and joints when they lift, pull and push.

The employees must have received good instruction in work techniques, i.e. how they can work without overloading themselves.

They must, among other things, be instructed in good lifting technique, pulling and pushing, use of suitable technical aids and how they create a good space to work in. There are also some limits set for the loads the employees must be exposed to.
